Lessons and Reflections After One Year of Podcasting
Podcasting sounds so easy on paper but after a year of consistent episodes you realize it is a lot of work!
When we got together to create the So-Called Oreos Podcast, we had no idea what it would entail. Our goal was to connect with other Black people who had felt a certain way and to shine a light on topics that we thought were incredibly important. From speaking about interracial relationships to being Black and introverted, we wanted the podcast to be something special and different.
In almost any project that you choose to do consistently, you will definitely learn more about yourself. That also goes for podcasting. With podcasting, there can be so much frustration since it is a crowded market with celebrities and there are still so many things up in the air about the industry. Podcasting requires patience, time and some extra money if you are funding it independently! If you have co-hosts, you will probably have some arguments but on the other hand it pushes you to compromise, be a better partner and have a strong friendship. Over the past year it’s been beautiful to see the show we created, the lives we touch and the conversations we had.
In this anniversary episode, we give some background stories on how we each met, first impressions of each other and the events that led to the creation of the So-Called Oreos Podcast. We also discuss our favorite episodes and the big moments that made the podcast feel more ‘real.’ See you next year!
