Like many single people, once Covid-19 hit I couldn’t help but think, “is this going to prevent me from finding someone?” I had already been single for three years and I was hoping 2020 would bring me some luck of finding someone new. The pandemic hit early March, which is already a cold and lonely time for a single person in the Northeast. It bummed me out not even being able to see my friends or family so the nights alone felt extra cold. I had longed for connection, romantic touch and any type of dopamine rush.

In the start of the pandemic, I heard many of my friends talking about still being on dating apps and the amount of people on those apps increased. I could imagine this was because people were bored and longed for any type of connection. But I personally had thought this was silly because I wasn’t going to risk getting Covid to meet a stranger and I didn’t feel like building up a relationship when I wasn’t sure of the next time I could see someone.

It seemed like the only option for singles was to waste your time talking to someone you weren’t sure you’ll ever meet or just sit in your loneliness.

Even though vaccines are coming, I am still worried about meeting strangers because I would feel terrible if I ever gave Covid to a friend or family member. I can’t help but wonder if my cautiousness is preventing me from meeting someone great and it will just be another year of the single life. I don’t mind being single but it would be cool to change it up a bit!

However, once social distancing and masks are more of the past and the Covid vaccine becomes an annual routine, I wouldn’t mind participating in the Whoring ‘20s. It’s the least of what I deserve for being locked up and lonely in quarantine.

In this episode, we share some stats on key trends around what the future of dating looks like as well as what some of the current pain points of dating during COVID are based on a survey from Iris, a NY-based dating app. Later, we dive into how personal dating standards and ideas have changed since COVID-19 swept the nation. Amari and Janae talk about their past situationships, Kia encourages listeners to expect more from their partners, while Rachel doles out sage wisdom about how to keep a relationship strong.
